Avionics and Flight Systems Engineer

Systems - Villeneuve, CH

The position

Crew
Systems
Location
Villeneuve, CH
Type of contract
Full-time

Your role

We’re designing several spacecraft at once, and every interface between their avionics, their flight software and the rest of the vehicle needs one person who owns it.

PAVE Space is building LYOBA, a heavy kick stage moving up to 4-ton payloads from LEO to high-energy orbits in under 24 hours.

So, why now?

Each of these spacecraft is complex, and each needs real systems engineering on avionics and flight systems, not a spreadsheet someone updates before a review. You’ll join a young systems engineering team and own that domain across the fleet, closing interface questions in days instead of letting issues drift to the next milestone.

You will own

Avionics and flight software requirements, from derivation and allocation through to verification

Interfaces between avionics, flight software and the other subsystems, kept current and agreed on both sides

Technical budgets for your domain: data rates, processing load, memory, and avionics power and mass contributions

Design reviews for your domain, from preparation to closing the actions they raise

Day-to-day technical coordination between avionics, software and subsystem engineers

A hand in shaping the custom SE tools our team is building for itself to work in a more efficient way

What we are looking for

3+ years of systems engineering in aerospace

A background in avionics and flight software, deep enough to challenge a design and not only track it

Working knowledge of ECSS/CCSDS and/or NASA standards, including how to tailor them to a program depending on stakeholder needs

You’ve owned requirements, interfaces or technical budgets on a real program

Fluent English (our working language)

Nice to have: French; having been through a full design lifecycle yourself, ideally as the systems engineer, otherwise as a team lead or as an engineer involved in it.

You will fit if

You see a flight software change and immediately ask what it impacts and how to solve it in a controlled way.

You’d rather own a domain across several spacecraft than one box on one of them.

You’d rather improve the SE tools you use than work around them.

When something breaks during integration, you’re the one who calmly pulls the thread until you find the cause and fix the problem.

The position is fully on-site in Villeneuve (VD), because we believe on-site presence makes for faster interactions. The systems engineering team is young, and so are its tools and processes, so part of the job is building them while you use them. When things go wrong, systems engineering is the last line of defence, and you’ll be pulled into firefighting more often than the title suggests. What makes that worth it: you’ll hold the avionics and flight systems picture across several spacecraft at once, with a real say in how they’re designed instead of a seat at the end of the process, and the tools you help build will shape how the whole team works.

We are building to ship, grounded on real hardware, real funding, real milestones. Apply to contribute, or send this to the systems engineer you know who’d want it.
